Seorang menteri Sarawak hari ini meminta Kabinet negeri mengkaji keselamatan orang kenamaan, termasuk menteri dan menteri muda, berikutan kejadian rompakan kereta melibatkan seorang menteri muda di sini semalam.

Menteri Kebajikan, Wanita dan Pembangunan Keluarga Datuk Fatimah Abdullah berkata keselamatan orang kenamaan tidak boleh dipandang ringan, terutama ketika mereka menjalankan tugas rasmi seperti menghadiri majlis yang berakhir lewat malam atau melawat kawasan yang mereka wakili di pedalaman Sarawak.

“Isu-isu seperti keselamatan sering mengganggu fikiran kami setiap masa, berbeza dengan menteri dan timbalan menteri persekutuan, kami (menteri negeri) tidak mempunyai pengawal peribadi atau polis pengiring,” katanya kepada pemberita selepas melancarkan buku masakan ‘Indian Flavours from Sarawak, Borneo,’ karangan Datin Ruby Sengupta, isteri bekas pakar bedah Hospital Umum Sarawak Datuk Dr P.R. Sengupta di sini.

Ditanya sama ada anggota Kabinet negeri perlu membawa senjata api sebagai langkah keselamatan, beliau berkata perkara itu adalah pilihan individu.

Fatimah bagaimanapun yakin pihak berkuasa berkenaan akan menyediakan polis pengiring apabila keadaan memerlukan dan atas permintaan orang kenamaan.

“Secara peribadi, saya berasa kekok apabila ada pengiring kerana saya tidak mahu menjadi tumpuan perhatian orang ramai. Kehadiran polis (kadang-kadang) merimaskan orang ramai dan pengguna jalan raya lain, tapi kalau kerana keselamatan, itu suatu perkara lainlah,” katanya.

Dalam ucapannya, Fatimah berkata makanan adalah antara faktor yang boleh menyatukan manusia, tanpa mengira latar belakang budaya atau agama dan perkara ini patut disemai dalam kalangan generasi muda.

Beliau berkata di samping tag pelancongan ‘budaya, pengembaraan dan alam semula jadi’, keunikan makanan Sarawak juga merupakan ciri yang mampu menarik pengunjung ke negeri ini.

Sementara itu, Ruby yang dilahirkan di Calcutta, berkata beliau ingin meninggalkan legasi masakan dalam bentuk buku yang beliau mengambil masa 20 tahun untuk menyusunnya berdasarkan resipi sendiri, kebanyakannya masakan Bengali. – Bernama

Pasukan Bujang Senang yang akan beraksi dalam perlawanan pertama peringkat separuh akhir Piala Malaysia dan akan berentap dengan pasukan Pahang ini bagaikan mendapat "restu" dari kepimpinan sayap Wanita parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) untk "membaham" lawannya!

Biarpun beraksi di padang lawan di Stadium Darul Makmur  Kuantan, Pahang semestinya pasukan Bujang Senang dibawah kendalian jurulatih pasukan mereka Robert Alberts tidak gentar berhadapan dengan tuan rumah tersebut.

"Ngap Sayot!", jerit pimpinan sayap Wanita PBB yang diketuai oleh Ketua Wanita PBB Dato Sri Empiang Jabu,  Timbalannya Datuk Hajah Fatimah Abdullah (Menteri, Kebajikan, Wanita & Pembangunan Keluarga Negeri), Naib Ketua Wanita PBB yang juga Menteri Wanita Pembangunan Keluarga & Datuk Hajah Rohani Karim serta exco-exco Wanita PBB.

Semangat ini yang khususnya "diberi" buat pemain-pemain Sarawak sempat dirakam oleh lensa UnReportedNews™® sejurus sahaja sayap Wanita PBB selesai saja menyempurnakan Mesyuarat Agung Wanita PBB di Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) siang tadi.

Program ini adalah satu usaha untuk menjadikan Bandar Kuching Bandar dengan "bernyawa", yang lebih dikenali sebagai "Soul City".

Terdapat juga, segmen-segmen cabutan bertuah yang menawarkan hadiah-hadiah menarik untuk orang ramai yang datang dan menyokong pasukan Sarawak untuk Piala Malaysia 2013.

Pelawat disaran meletakkan kenderaan mereka di tempat letak kereta yang disediakan di Civic Centre dan Taman Budaya.

JANJI DITEPATI-KEBAJIKAN BEKAS PEKERJA SANMINA DIBELA

-SIKAP INITIATIF & PROAKTIF JABATAN KEBAJIKAN SARAWAK PERLU DI CONTOHI KERANA MENGAMBILKIRA KEBAJIKAN KELUARGA BEKAS PEKERJA YANG DI PECAT..PEMBANGKANG ADA? KEKEKE!!!-

Nasib bekas pekerja Sanmina-CSI Corporation (M) Sendirian Berhad yang diberhentikan secara mengejut terbela apabila Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat Negeri Sarawak (JKMNS) hari ini mengambil inisiatif memberi bantuan segera.

Menteri Kebajikan, Wanita dan Pembangunan Keluarga, Datuk Hajah Fatimah Abdullah berkata, bantuan segera diberikan kepada bekas pekerja ini berikutan keadaan mereka yang putus punca pendapatan sebelum memperoleh pekerjaan baru.

“Bantuan persekolahan RM500 diberikan kepada ibu bapa yang mempunyai anak bersekolah dan RM300 diberikan kepada bekas pekerja ini hanya pada kali ini sahaja,” katanya.

Beliau berkata demikian semasa sesi perjumpaan bekas pekerja Sanmina-CSI dengan pIhaknya di Wisma Kebajikan dan turut menyampaikan bantuan segera kepada mereka.

Fatimah menambah, anak bekas pekerja itu akan didaftar dibawah skim Bantuan Kanak-kanak (BKK) dan sekiranya layak, mereka akan menerima RM100 hingga RM450 setiap bulan namun akan dinilai selepas setahun kemudian.

“Kita juga memberikan bantuan keperluan asas untuk setiap keluarga dan kaunter pendaftaran e-kasih dibuka untuk menyimpan data mereka,” ujarnya.

Selain itu, agensi lain turut terlibat sama dalam usaha membela nasib bekas pekerja Sanmina-CSI seperti Jabatan Tenaga Kerja (JTK) yang mengadakan program ‘job-matching’ sebagai usaha membantu pekerja berkenaan di Padawan baru-baru ini.

Sementara itu, Pengerusi Jawatankuasa Bertindak bekas pekerja ini, James Jalai merakamkan setinggi penghargaan kepada pihak JKMNS atas bantuan berkenaan.

Semalam, seramai 643 bekas pekerja Sanmina hadir pada sesi bantuan segera semalam dan sekira ada pertanyaan mengenai program ini, mereka boleh menghubungi no talipon : 082-448534 Jabatan Kebajikan Sarawak (masa pejabat).

SOCIAL WORKER ACT TO BE INTRODUCED SOON

The proposed Social Worker Act is scheduled to go before the Malaysian Parliament in the next sitting which is on this forthcoming October this year.

Minister in Welfare, Women and Family Development Datuk Hajah Fatimah Abdullah disclosed that the legislation of the Social Worker Act had been completely drafted and currently in the processes of getting feedbacks from those who would be involved.

“Once, the feedbacks are collected, we would presented it to the relevant parties for it to be tabled in the next Parliamentary session this coming October,” said Fatimah who is also Dalat Assemblywomen.

“Although society, through various laws and social policies, entrust social workers such tasks, there has been little official recognition for training required to do these to a professional standard and with the new Social Act, this is about to change.”

“It is timely in our country’s development that we distinguished those who volunteer their efforts to help others and those who have a duty to all the ethics, knowledge base and skills of professional social work.”

“Working together and sharing with a wider public your expertise and empowering approach we can strengthen our services and achieve the caring society envisioned when the roadmap to a fully developed nation was drafted,” she added.

She said that she appreciates those who had been actively involved in drafting this legislation as it is very important it is that those who need the social workers’ service which have the assurance that it is delivered by competent social workers adhering to profession’s code of ethics.

Fatimah said this in a press conference after officiating the third Conference in Advancing Social Workers Series with this year’s theme “Improving Practice Competencies Through Education and Mentoring yesterday morning.

The two-day workshop was organized by Social Worker Program, Faculty of Social Science and Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) comprises of several series of workshop and talks on the social working related matters was held at one of the leading hotels in the Kuching here.

Earlier in her opening speech, Fatimah said that helping others should be close to everyone’s heart particularly social workers, whose role by definition is to help others.

“Since I was given Ministerial responsibility for the Department of Welfare, I have realized how wide is that scope of a social work’s job in each of the employing agencies and how much depth is required when you are.”

“Daily, you face a range of taxing problems which need to be able to assessment and a strong adherence to your profession’s values so the uniqueness of each person is understood, respected and a way appropriate to that person’s culture and context is found to improve their situation.”

She pointed out that it’s not an easy job as for instance you need to able to assess the complex reasons behind child neglect and physical abuse whilst ensuring the child is not only protected but thrive.

“Then, there is the highly emotional area of child sexual abuse and the need to understand teenager who are troubled including young offenders, run-away and girl facing pregnancy without family support.”

“Having made the skilled assessment, social worker’s role is then to take action which helps those people have a better life and the same is true for other areas of your work, be it helping families and communities who are disadvantage or people facing illness.”

Fatimah reminded that the additional conditions needed to be a social worker is to be loving and caring; social concerns on what happened to people, communities around them and wanting to be some service to improve and situation, to make this world a better place for all.

“Ready, willing and determined to learn, and increase the capacity of self, knowledge, attitudes and skills to contribute to the development and well-being of society, she said adding that humility and humbleness, humility which is not proud or arrogant or feel yourself just right, showing off and so forth is also an important for a social worker.

IN-DEPTH STUDY ON MOBILE PHONES AT SCHOOL NEEDED

Minister in Welfare, Women and Family Development Datuk Hajah Fatimah Abdullah said that there would also be pros and contras should the students are allowed to bring mobile phones and IT gadgets to school.

“We must understand that in the world today, mobile phones are essential tools for our daily lives therefore, there are needs for the students to bring their mobile phones to school where sometimes their parents wanted to communicate with them.”

“But the Ministry of education should set-up in details the rules straight so that students’ mobile phones shall not cause or be some sort disturbance throughout the progress of learning in the classes.”

She was asked to comment the Ministry of the Education’s proposal of allowing students to bring mobile phones and IT gadgets to school from next year after rules and regulations under the Education Act 1996 are amended.

Currently, students are not prohibited to bring mobile phones to school and the draft of the amendment would be submitted to the Attorney-General's Chambers within a week and that “stringent” guidelines on the use of electronic gadgets in school would be put in place.

On another proposal that any teacher have the right to bring a suspected pregnant students to the clinic for check-ups, Fatimah said that the matter also have pros and contras as currently the school authorities have to contact the student’s parents should they suspect their daughters are pregnant.

“Nevertheless, these proposals should be finalized by getting feedbacks from the parents and students first before being implemented, she added.

HERMAN UNSELFISHLY RISKED HIS LIFE FOR A STRANGER DESPITE HE DID NOT KNOW HOW TO SWIM & IN THE END PERISHED UNDER THE WATER

JANUARY 5th, 2012 would be remembered for the rest of the lives for the family of Herman Sihas @ Muhamad Sulaiman Abdullah, one of the two victims in the flash flood tragedy near Batu Lintang near the city here.

That morning, Herman’s sister received a phone call and was told that her 28-year-old brother who had just worked only a week at the Jalan Rock Shell petrol station had drown after attempting to save an SMK Batu Lintang female student Kho Ying Qi who had slipped and fell into a monsoon drain nearby the petrol station.

Herman’s spontanious action to jump into the water to save the student, a stranger to him despite he himself cannot swim was his true nature as we know him as a caring and responsible human being. That was Herman, as we knew him.

During the next two days is a very difficult situation for all families however, thanks to the prayer of unfailing sympathy of all parties, irrespective of race and religion throughout the search and rescue operation, his body was finally discovered by members of the Civil Defence Department (personnel) on Saturday, January 7, 2012 at 8:45 am.

We lost a good son in this family however, we very proud because for us, his departure is not in vain as many things had happened before and after this incident that gave a lot of signs and guides us as a family. May his soul prayed and placed among the believers.
