All the Fire and Rescue Department (FRD) volunteer teams
in the Santubong Parliamentary constituency are urged to be pro-active such as
their fellow FRD volunteer team from Kampung Bako Indah who had advanced ahead
further by emerging as the first FRD volunteer team in Sarawak to own its own
FRD mini station.
Member of Parliament for Santubong Datuk Dr Haji Wan
Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar made this compliment adding that the achievement by
Kampung Bako Indah would be the benchmark for all other FRD volunteer to achieve
in the future.
“Although the establishment of the Kampung Bako Indah
volunteer mini FR station is a collaboration project between the State
government (providing the site for the station) and State FRD (providing the
fund for the building), it is the true hard work and dedication by each of the
members of the Kampung Bako Indah FRD volunteer themselves that had enabled
this success.”
Junaidi, who is also the Deputy Speaker of Parliament
said this in his speech during the Gotong Royong Project of building the mini
volunteer FRD mini station at Kampung Bako Indah near here on Sunday morning.
The establishment of the villages’ volunteer FRD mini
station was initiated by Junaidi by seeking a suitable land from the government
and allocating RM10,000 grant for the organisation and in addition of RM18,000
funding of building material by the State FRD.
The single storey building, which would have its own office
and operation room with a car porch for the Proton-Arena FRD volunteer mobile
is expected to be completed by the end of December this year.
Meanwhile, Sarawak’s State FRD Director Nor Hisyam
Mohammad who also attended the officiating ceremony in his opening speech thanked
the Kampung Bako Indah volunteer FRD team for the assistances and involvement
in combating fire incidents, minimising the devastation caused by the
aftermaths.
“Since the establishments of the Kampung Bako Indah
volunteer FRD team in 2008, the team comprising of 34 members led by Noh Yahim
have been directly involved in 14 fire incidents with two of the incidents they
handsomely controlled by themselves and this is quite an achievement for a
volunteer unit.”
“I can pledge that the Kampung Bako Indah volunteer FRD
team is among the best and active FRD volunteer unit in Sarawak and this had
enabled them to be chosen as the first unit to have its own FRD mini station,”
he added.
Nor Hisyam disclosed that in the latest development, the
federal FRD will start issuing RM3,000 grant to volunteer unit by next year and
also each and every members of the FRD volunteer unit will be covered under an
Insurance normally for the fireman.
