NEW SARAWAK TRIBUNE EXECUTIVE EDITOR KILLED IN ACCIDENT


-SRI AMAN POLICE DISTRICT CONFIRMED THE MISHAP, A HEAD-ON COLLISION BETWEEN DUSTAN'S 4WD & A LORRY LADEN WITH GAS CYLINDERS-

New Sarawak Tribune's executive editor Dunstan Melling Undau, 66, was killed early this morning in a road mishap at Selepung, about 30 kilometres from Sri Aman.

However, his wife, Jacqueline Bungai Gawan, 62, who was accompanying him on the pre-Gawai trip back to his hometown in Saratok, survived the mishap and was taken to the Sri Aman hospital for treatment.

Melling, who served as the current Sarawak Scout Chief Commissioner and was also a former information department officer, is also survived by five children.

The Sri Aman police district police station's operations room confirmed the mishap, a head-on collision between the four-wheel-drive vehicle driven by Melling and a lorry laden with gas cylinders.

Meanwhile,  Federation of Sarawak Journalists Associations (FSJA) president Sulok Tawie described Melling's tragic death as a huge loss to the media fraternity, especially as he had expressed his enthusiasm to share his vast experience and knowledge in the setting up of the proposed Media Council.

His body has been brought to the Sri Aman hospital for post-mortem. -BERNAMA
