COMMUNITY-RELATED PROJECTS PROVES GOVERNMENT'S PRIORITY TO THE PEOPLE

-NEARBY VILLAGERS HOWEVER, ARE REMINDED TO BE PRO-ACTIVE & CONTINUE MONITORING THE PROJECT UP TO ITS COMPLETION

“KAMPUNG Santubong’s Beach Erosion Prevention Project” which involves a massive construction of a stretching wall of wave breaker strategically placed along the beach to protect the village from earth erosion are progressing accordingly to schedule.

“Although construction work of the program are progressing as scheduled, all the villagers, especially community leaders, village heads, grass root leader and those concerned to have the initiative of being pro-active by continue to monitor the project until it is fully complete.”

Member of Parliament for Santubong Datuk Dr Haji Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said this and pointed out beside having the advantage and opportunity to closely monitor on the project as they are staying just nearby, they themselves are the ones who would eventually benefit from the project upon its completion.”

“The construction of the wave breakers stretching about 345 meters long along this part of the each here is only one of the phases of the entire “Kampung Santubong’s Beach Erosion Prevention Program” and this phase is initially expected to be completed within six months.”

Junaidi, who is also Deputy Speaker of Parliament was met by reporters during his routine Parliamentary Constituency working-visit on the projects, inspecting all the projects in his areas and yesterday, his visit focussed at Kampung Santubong, about 45KM from Kuching city.

Explaining that the objective of the RM10 million project was to protect the beaches alongside the village from the erosion caused by the sea, Junaidi also disclosed that upon completion, the structure would also enable to protect about ten houses in that village that were built rather too closely to the sea.

“Although the situation of the houses I have mentioned are “not in a danger level” the wave breakers are crucial to prevent any untoward incident including preventing the house being washed away into the sea.”

He expressed his concerned for the project to be completed within the stipulated period as if not, he feared that the beach would not last another rainy or monsoon season.
Without disclosing the exact figure, Junaidi disclosed that the allocation from the Tourism Ministry for the beatification project, covering the wave breakers along the beach had been received and only waiting for the completion of the wave breaker before the beautification progress commences.

“The beautification project also include the waterfront, toilet, hall, stalls and other facilities,” he elaborate and also present were Santubong Pemanca Rashidi Junai, Kuching Water and Drainage Department Divison Engineer Lim Hiok Hwa and several other representative from the agencies and department involving in the project.
