GRASSROOT LEADERS TO EQUIP THEMSELVES WITH MANAGEMENT KNOWLEDGE

THE leaders at the grassroot level should be more pro-active in taking the opportunity and advantage of obtaining new, relevant knowledge offered through courses and seminars by the government as their "new learnt knowledge" will enable them to discharge the government’s agendas and programs accurately and effectively to those people under their jurisdiction.

Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Datuk Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Haji Jafaar said leaders like Pemanca, Headman, Community Leaders and even the Chairman of the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) plays a major and important role in creating awareness and mobilizing the people in their area, particularly in terms of development.

"Don't only trying hard to just to hold that certain important position or title and instead of working hard for the people after being appointed, they would just take the appointment for granted and have not the heart to contribute to the people."

"Actually those whom were were chosen bears and carries great responsibilities entrusted on them by the government, literally as the government's "eyes and ears" particularly to ensure and monitor all of the government agenda and plans can be implemented smoothly and efficiently.

"Therefore each of the leaders at the grassroots level here are reminded to always be pro-active and have the initiative to "update" and equip themselves with the latest knowledge, especially related to the current issues to enable them to deliver the right information to the community.”

"You all also need to make changes in the way of approaching the people as the community profile before," he said in his speech at certificate presentation ceremony for the participants of one-day “Strengthening the Villages Development and Security Committee (JKKK) Management “ course at the Lundu District Community Hall near here yesterday.

About 300 participants consisting Lundu JKKK committee members from 92 villages in Lundu and Sematan attended the one-day course and among the ceremony distinguish-invited guests  present were Kuching Resident Abdul Rahman Sebli and Lundu District Officer Azmi Bujang.

"It is important for local leaders to undergo continuous training and equip themselves with a variety of knowledge matters and current issues so that they know how to deal with the problem and give the correct explanation," he said, pointing out as leaders, they must be smart to censor all information and current issues that occur to avoid distorted information by stakeholders.

In another development, the Junaidi who is also the Member of Parliament for Santubong also expressed pleasure with the initiatives taken by the District Office in setting Lundu four key performance indicators (KPI) for all JKKK in the area.

The four JKK KPIs outlined were; (1) meeting at least four times a year, (2) at least least two activities (fully initiated by the villagers without any government aid) (3) providing a respective "village profile" of the latest and updated information on the details of each of the villagers to the Lundu District Office no later than December 31 each year and (4) providing infrastructure and social development plans at least once in two years.

"For me, this target can be easily achieved as it is very rational and I believe within the next six months, those involved will achieved all the targeted KPIs will be achieved," said Junaidi optimistically.

"Most importantly, each and very detail of the villagers such as total of single mothers, status of living and all other sorts of data gathered are very crucial as these information will determine and enabled the government to quickly plan, estimate and know whom are eligible for any aids or assistance-related program however, with condition, the data are updated regularly."
