CERT VITAL FOR REMOTE AREAS

The establishment of the Crisis Emergency Response Team (CERT) at Teluk Melano near Sematan will not only serve the local community in any emergency situation but it also gives confident to the people that the government are also concern on their safety.

Member of Parliament for Santubong Datuk Dr Haji Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said that CERT will be the initial party to assist the people should their any disaster or emergency situation before the government rescue team can arrived to Teluk Melano.

“CERT is a programme in collaboration from various departments; Fire and Rescue Depart, Police, JPAM and others and most importantly, this program is acknowledged and supported by State government.”

Junaidi, who is also the Deputy Speaker of Parliament who was accompanied by his wife Datin Feona Sim Abdullah said this in his speech during the official closing ceremony of Telok Melano three-day CERT training yesterday morning.

Meanwhile, Director of Security in the Chief Minister's Department Datuk Dr Haji Yusoff Nook who was also present at the ceremony in his opening speech disclosed that Teluk Melano’s CERT is the 16th CERT established in Sarawak, so far.

“It is the Government’s intention and plan to set as many CERT as possible especially in the remote and isolated areas to response to the people in any emergency situation,” he added.

The Teluk Melano CERT recruiting session saw an overwhelming response of 94 volunteers registered and took the three day intensive training by the departments and agencies involved.

Later, Junaidi visited one of three houses under the Special Fisherman Hosuing Project under the the Majlis Pembangunan Pertanian Parliament (MPPP) Santubong project at the village.

Junaidi, who is also MPP Santubong disclosed to New Sarawak Tribune that there are 85 houses listed to be repaired or rebuild in Tanjung Datu alone while hundreds of houses through the same project had either been completed or undergoing in Pantai Damai and Demak Laut.

“This is an on-going project by the government under the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to ensure the fisherman folks will have a comfortable house and to assist them,” he added.

During the ceremony, Junaidi also presented some cash donation to the needy folks from Teluk Melano and other nearby villages.
