Bandar Kuching MP’s sweeping statement on the Prime
Minister’s transformation programmes has drawn brickbats from BN leaders.
Asajaya assemblyman Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said it was
unfair for Chong Chieng Jen to criticise just for the sake of criticising.
He described Chong Chieng Jen’s politics as that of
purely ‘langau politics’ since he could only see the negative side of politics
and not its positive side.
“Chong must learn to appreciate and give credit when it
is due and criticise when the need to criticise arises. It is not right to
‘hantam’ and criticise the government just for the sake of critising without
realising what he is saying is not the truth but a mere sweeping statement not
supported by facts and figures.
“It is unfortunate that he chooses to discredit the PM’s
transformation programmes as mere public relations exercise,” Abdul Karim, who
is Assistant Minister of Youth Development, said to The Borneo Post through an
SMS yesterday.
Karim was asked to respond to Chong’s statement that the
Prime Minister’s transformation programmes these past three years as nothing
more than a public relations exercise.

At the press conference in Kuching on Thursday, Chong was
quoted by the media as saying one of the most obvious failures was its effort
to reduce crime index which is part of the National Key Result Areas (NKRA).
Reacting to this, Abdul Karim was puzzled as to how Chong
could be ignorant of things happening around him.
“Chong must be so blind and ignorant of what is happening
and he could not see the vast development all over the country.
“Instead, he could only see the negative side of this.
His politics is purely ‘langau politics’, that is, he can only see the negative
side of politics and not its positive side,” he said.
Tarat assemblyman Datuk Roland Sagah Wee Inn when
contacted described Chong’s statement as a cheap publicity to leverage his
political mileage.
“There is nothing there but cheap publicity. People know
and are appreciative of the Prime Minister’s transformation programmes which
have benefitted them,” said
Sagah, who is also the state Legislative assembly (DUN)
deputy speaker.
