The RM1 million allocation, RM500,000 for each of the two respective Churches in Sarawak recently approved by Barisan Nasional (BN) government is a solid proof of the government's sincerity and concern for all Malaysian, regardless of their races, religions or background.

Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Dato Sri Douglas Uggah Embas said the BN government under the leadership of the Premier Prime Minister Dato' Seri Najib Tun Razak does not gives "lip-services" but committed in giving priority and delivering the needs of the people.

Douglas, who is also Member of Parliament for Betong said this to the reporters after presenting two respective cheques to the representatives of the Seri Aman's St. Luke Church and Betong's St. Augustine Church in a simple presenting ceremony yesterday.

The ceremony, witnessed by Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Alfred Jabu was held at Jabu's office at the 19th floor of Wisma Bapa Malaysia at Petra Jaya near the city here.

Expressing his concern on the series of baseless slanders and lies against the government spread freely through all sort medias and communications including blogs, radio stations and others, Douglas urges that both churches also can be the medium of explaining the truth on the present government's good policies to the people.

"It is very crucial that we must work together to tell the people about the reality and facts about the government which is the otherwise of what the irresponsible parties had potrayed them as," added Douglas.

Earlier, Jabu in his brief remark, expressed his gratitude and thanks on behalf of the people of Sarawak to the Chief Minister Pehin Seri Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud and Prime Minister Dato' Seri Najib Tun Razak for the allocation for the two churches.

"I believe that apart from the hard work and initiative by Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Dato Sri Douglas Uggah Embas, the good and close relationship by both federal and state governments all this while is also an important aspect that had enabled these funds to be approved."

JABU
He explained that the Seri Aman's St. Luke Church was burnt a few years ago and needed to be rebuilt while the Betong's St. Augustine Church was is in a dilapidated and poor condition and needed major repairing.

"Although the State government had allocated some funding and in addition, the members of both of the respective churches had initiatively tried to raise funds through varieties of  take charity activities however, the collection was never sufficient until now therefore, I advise them to spend it wisely on their churches.

Among those present during the presenting ceremony was Assistant Minister of Public Utilities (Electricity and Telecommunications) and Assistant Minister of Youth Development (Rural) Datuk Dr. Stephen Rundi Utom and other distinguished guests.
