SWP, FRIEND OR FOE?

-SWP’S RECENT ATTEMPT TO PENETRATE THE IBAN COMMUNITY IN THE RURAL AREA THROUGH THEIR LEADERS’ HOWEVER, IS OBVIOUSLY NOT A FRIENDLY GESTURE TO BN-

Sarawak Worker’s Party (SWP) is making use of Iban community leaders to garner Iban support in the coming general election.

Engkelili State Assemblyman Dr Johnnical Rayong Ngipa remarked that this was the party’s new tactic which was evident during its recent campaigning.

“They are making use of the community leaders as a bridge to influence Iban voters into supporting them. They hope the Iban will listen to the call of their leaders to go against the Barisan Nasional (BN) in the coming general election.

“I hope the rural folks will not be easily misled by them,” said Rayong at a meet-the-people session at Rumah Awing, Merindun here last Monday.

The assemblyman also wanted the rural folks to know that SWP was never with the BN since its formation not long ago.

“They say they support the BN just to confuse the people. I want the people to understand that SWP is not a BN friendly party as a BN friendly party will not contest against the BN,” he said.

Rayong also announced an allocation of RM10,000 to the village development and security committee (JKKK) and another RM5,000 to its women’s bureau.

Member of Parliament for Lubok Antu William Nyalau Badak had earlier declared open the session.
