DON'T STIR PENAN ISSUE, CAUTIONED TAIB

-ALL QUARTERS OR PARTIES SHOULD RESPECT & RECOGNISE THE RIGHTS OF OTHER COMMUNITIES OR RACES IN SARAWAK & SHOULD DEFINITELY NOT TO HUMILIATE & DEGRADE THEM-



Chief Minister Pehin Sri Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud yesterday reminded all quarters as not to provoke the anger among the ethnic races in the state by deliberately created a sensitive issue.


"All quarters or parties should respect and recognize the rights of other communities or races in Sarawak and should definitely not to humiliate and degrade them."


"For me, the best way to maintain the unity of understanding and is not trying to find  and highightng faults in other's race without knowing the the validity of a matter and the best thing to do check it or keep quite rather than sensiolizing them at a greater level."


"This is because the implication is worser than the clash between race or ethnicity itself," he told reporters officiating the launching two books entitled: "The Lanjak Entimau Story: Changing Landscape In Biodiversity Conservation" and "Birds Of Bario And The Kelabit Highlands".


The ceremony attended also by Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Alfred Jabu, senior ministers and all members of the State Legislative Assembly was held at the Dining Hall Assembly State Legislative here yesterday.


Taib was earlier asked to comment on the report in a national tabloid last Sunday  quoting that the Penan tribe in a village in Ulu Baram still practices incest involving  family members including children with a parent or another sibling.


The results from the survey in the report alleged that about 15 families who live in the area despite the nomadic provided longhouses, blood relatives, 10 married couples with their own flesh and blood.


Elaborating more on the matter, Pehin Sri Taib warned all not to touch on sensitive issues and all races in Malaysia should be conserving besides protecting the rights of people with no dignity and image of anyone.
