GENERAL ELECTION ON JUNE 3RD?

-THAT DATE IS NOT A SUITABLE TIME FOR SARAWAKIANS & SABAHANS AS WE ARE CELEBRATING TWO OF THE BIGGEST FESTIVALS IN BORNEO-

THE government should consider the sensitivity of the holidays celebrated by Sarawakians and Sabahans; Gawai Dayak (June 1) and Pesta Kamatan (May 31) should they decided to the polling day to be held on 3rd June, this year.

Deputy Speaker of Parliament Datuk Dr Haji Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said this when asked to comment should the polling day would be held on June 3rd as one of three proposed dates for the contest, according to a report in the newspaper today.

“From my own personal view, that date (June 3rd) is not a suitable time for Sarawakians and Sabahans as we are celebrating two of the most biggest celebrations in Borneo.”

“The government must take the consideration of these matters as most of the voters would be probably still celebrating these festivals with their families at their “natural kampungs” far away from their voting places.”

Junaidi, who is also Member of Parliament (MP) for Santubong said this to reporters the “Berambeh Minum Pagi” with Community leaders and villagers programme at Kampung Bako Hulu near the city here earlier this morning.

When asked whether when is the most suitable and convenience period for the polling day, Junaidi said in his view, after June 15th would be the best polling period as it is before the fasting month.
