OPPOSITION'S CLAIMS GOVERNMENT MANIPULATING GOODS PRICES IS RIDICULOUS & FAR-FETCH

-THE PRICES OF SOME OF THE PRODUCTS DEPENDS ON THE GLOBAL MARKET ITSELF
THE claims by the opposition that the government are manipulating the basic household products is ridiculous and far-fetch as the government don’t actually have all the total powers to control the prices of some of the goods as alleged.

“The people must understand that the government don’t have all the total powers to control the prices of goods as some of them depend on global prices.

“For instance, although Malaysia have a sugar factory however, with the local raw material (sugar can) supplies that factory only produces two per cent of the entire amount of sugar needed in this country therefore, we need to import sugar cane from our neighbouring country.”

Minister of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumer Affairs (KPDNKK) Dato' Ismail Sabri Yaacob discloses this to reporters adding that the prices for the sugar cane may increase due to the weather conditions affecting the countries that we imported the sugar canes from.

These scenarios also goes to the products too such as rice and others, he said during the launching of two programmes; Student Consumer Movement (GPS) and Rakyat 1Malaysia's menu with the supplying of the 1Malaysia products to Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) near here yesterday.

Also present at the launching ceremony were KPNDKK deputy Minister Datuk Hajah Rohani Karim, Assistant Minister for Planning and Resource Management Datuk Mohd Naroden Majais, Sarawak KPNDKK director Wan Ahmad Uzir Haji Wan Sulaiman, UNIMAS deputy cansellor Prof Datuk Dr Khairudin Ab. Hamid and other distinguished guests
